Our official title is currently
Shady Creek / Brentwood Bay Pastoral Charge.
The office for the Pastoral Charge is located behind the Shady Creek hall (beside the church) at 7180 East Saanich Road
We have a full-time minister and an amazing choir (which always welcomes new singers!).
We have undertaken a variety of outreach programs over the years, such as supporting Our Place, although our major efforts are devoted to the United Church's Mission & Service fund, through which we aid people in need both in Canada and abroad. We are currently dedicated to raising money (along with our Anglican neighbours) in order to support a refugee family from Syria.
Those of us with an interest in books generally, and in the subject of religion in particular, meet every Thursday morning to talk about what we've read. The group is called the Thursday Thinkers. They are currently encouraging others to start another group that could meet at a time more suitable for working types.
For recreation, there are occasional suppers and once-a-month breakfasts.
We invite others who would like to be involved in these and other activities to join us. New members aren't required to be particularly "religious;" seekers and people of goodwill are always welcome. We value everyone's ideas and talents.
Of course, it's not all work! There are fun times, such as the Spring Tonic evening (a talent show to beat all talent shows!!), and coffee hours after church services (characterized by lots of food and conversations).
Although Shady Creek United Church goes back to the beginnings of settlement on the Saanich Peninsula, many of us are comparative newcomers. We are all, however, keen to preserve the traditions of the good Christian families that built the churches and the community we have inherited.
